This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
