The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
