The Details Known About the Victims of the Bondi Shooting
No fewer than 16 individuals perished and more than 40 were hurt when gunmen fired on a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, officials have confirmed the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the suspected attackers. Moreover, 42 injured people were admitted to the hospital.
The victims are yet to be officially identified, but police believe their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Reportedly a father of five children, he was the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member remarked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.
She described the moments before the attack, explaining they were standing when the gunfire erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.
The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Officially, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality in the incident, according to reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number are still under care, with a number in critical condition. The injured include two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He said he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
