That Gory Animated Film Ending That Haunts Fans
Among every adult-oriented animated films I have ever watched, no other has remained with me quite like the fear-filled ending of the explicitly bloody and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spain-based writer-director created a dark, bleak and frequently brutal universe that included several minor , desolate hints of hope.
While Unicorn Wars feels like it came from an impulse to advance the medium even more, the filmmaker stated that it was actually an attempt to convey a widespread, cross-cultural message concerning “the common origin of all wars.”
This theme is expressed via a squad of vividly colored bears , openly inspired by a well-known line of cuddly figures.
Growing up in a society centered on aggression as well as the military-industrial complex, numerous these animals are obsessed with killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text which states them they previously were masters of the forest, before the unicorns forced them out.
Some haven’t fully bought into the brainwashing, , choose to try out narcotics and mate in the forest.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these colorful critters display sexual organs and definite libidos.
For one especially vicious, skeptical animal, Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns transforms into a route to power — and particularly to supremacy over his gentler, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
This bear is a bully and an apparent antisocial figure , and as terror takes over his unit and takes his teammates individually, he takes more and more control for himself, in increasingly bloody, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are suffering their own horror, through a spreading, destructive monster in their habitat.
“Initially, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it evolves into a more dramatic and melancholic film. And ultimately, it’s a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars starts out resembling one of the more playful movies from a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a naughty glee in letting animated figures swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.
Afterward it turns into something more like a more grim work by that same director, with increasingly graphic violence , a tangible link to genuine suffering of war.
Ultimately, it becomes an outright Grand Guignol carnage.
The fear that turns the film a perfect Halloween watch kicks in well before than one might expect.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who desire to watch something they’ve never viewed until now, and are able to withstand a story that offers absolutely no punches.
See it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the conclusion will burrow under your skin and stay with you.
