Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
