R360 Athletes Hit With 10-Season Exclusion from Australia's Rugby League

The NRL's governing body has stated that athletes who join the “counterfeit” R360 will be prohibited for 10 years.

The proposed competition, which plans to launch in October 2026, is aiming to attract rugby union and rugby league players with substantial agreements and a reduced fixture list.

Leading NRL players have reportedly been approached by the breakaway group, which will include six to eight men's teams and four women's teams located in key urban centers globally.

Samoa's the player, who represents New Zealand Warriors in the competition, has confirmed he has had negotiations involving the breakaway league.

Ryan Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be weighing up offers from the rebel league.

Eight major union countries, such as Australia, last week announced a ban on players joining R360 appearing in international matches.

“We have consulted our teams and we've responded strongly,” commented the league's chief V'Landys.

“Sadly, there will always be groups that attempt to hijack our sport for monetary profit.

“They avoid funding in development systems or the development of athletes. They merely capitalize on the dedication of other organizations, endangering athletes of monetary damage while gaining personally.

“They are, in reality, imitating the sport.”

The league is established by ex-England star Mike Tindall and supported by commercial backers.

Following the possible rugby union prohibitions were revealed recently, it stated: “We want to work together as part of the global rugby calendar.

“The series is structured with bespoke schedules for men's and women's teams and we will permit participants for test matches, as included in their contracts.”

The new league will seek approval for its plans from the international authority, rugby union's administrative organization, at its official gathering in the coming year.
