New Year's Celebrants Told to Bundle Up with Snow Predicted Across the UK
Forecasters are reporting an icy start to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely throughout a lot of the UK. Those celebrating have been told to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Continue Despite Alerts
Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay festivities are planned to take place, a contrast to last year's postponement. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those out celebrating, so extra layers will be necessary," said the national forecaster.
Displays Under Mostly Clear but Chilly Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is expected to be ideal for fireworks displays, with no rain and clear skies. The mercury are forecast to be chilly, meaning warm wraps vital, as per forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Widespread Snow Warnings for Friday
As we enter Friday, advisories have been issued across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Temperatures Forecast to Plummet Further
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to fall even more as wintry showers and strong winds are expected to hit the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Alerts Released
Meanwhile, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency said this meant the weather could to cause notable consequences across medical and care provision. This involves a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those in the older age groups.
