People have come together across the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the return of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to review the provisions of the agreement.

A high-ranking representative knowledgeable about the discussions indicated that an night meeting of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source stated the earlier meeting ended without tangible results, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the initial stage of the deal.

He added that the discussions are "tough and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future administration of the territory

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother lived through the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place seems like home anymore and until each abducted person return no one will feel safe."

"Once we see all home again, we can breathe again. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's residence in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the relatives of the captives. Israel says forty-eight remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "We need do any agreement necessary for the captives to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."

Surveys now regularly indicate that around the majority of Israelis prefer the hostilities to end in as payment for the freedom of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the gathering, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers indicated the heavy Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the morning of that day in the western neighborhood, Rimal and locality districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the night arrives, the fear comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, explained.

"We are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we monitor the updates to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be completed and that the conflict will return to us."

Health Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had accepted the remains of six people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city indicated additional victims had been delivered. A person was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get assistance to the south region, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
