Ipswich boxer Fabio Wardley Poised to Become WBO World Champion as Usyk Relinquishes Title
Britain's heavyweight contender will be upgraded to WBO heavyweight champion after Usyk decided to relinquish his title
This situation arises after Usyk informed the World Boxing Organisation he would not proceed with a mandatory title defence against Wardley
Official Announcement

Usyk still holds the three major championship belts, having overcome Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in July to become a double undisputed champion
He initially achieved the complete unified champion in May 2024 by beating Tyson Fury, before vacating another belt a month afterwards and deciding not to fight the mandatory challenger

Championship History
The champion captured the championship in 2021 by defeating Anthony Joshua and went on to successfully defend multiple times
In mid-year, the WBO had ordered negotiations for a mandatory defence against interim champion Joseph Parker, only for a back injury sustained by Usyk to force the postponement of the bout
Wardley's Rise
But the 30-year-old British fighter, captured the temporary championship from his opponent with a major surprise in the championship rounds at the famous London arena last month and was required to challenge Usyk before the end of September
The WBO is yet to officially confirm Wardley's promotion but his manager Warren believes it is a formality
