Followers Demand Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram feed contains clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, earning two for best costume and artistic direction.
