Ex- Physician Faces Assault Allegations Against 38 Patients
Legal authorities have announced that a ex- physician stands accused of performing sexual assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were under his care.
The Grave Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Police Inquiry
The charges follow what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
